Step 1: Safety First & Safety Prep👀
Before starting any repair work, safety comes first:
1. Unplug the machine from the mains electricity socket.
2. Turn off the water supply taps behind the appliance.
3. Lay down a few old towels and a shallow tray near the bottom front panel, as standing water will come out when you open the drain filter.
Step 2: Check and Clean the Drain Filter
The drain filter catches debris like loose coins, lint, hair clips, and stray socks before they reach the pump.
1. Locate the drain filter access door at the bottom front right or left of your washing machine.
2. Open the door and pull out the small emergency drain hose (if your model has one) to drain residual water into your tray.
3. Slowly unscrew the main filter cap counter-clockwise. Water will flow out—let it drain into your tray.
4. Remove any trapped debris, clear out foreign objects, and rinse the filter thoroughly under warm tap water.
5. Use a torch to look inside the filter cavity; turn the small pump impeller with your finger to check that it spins freely and isn’t jammed.
6. Refit the filter securely to prevent leaks.
Step 3: Inspect the Waste Hose & Spigot🚰
If the filter is clean but water still doesn’t drain, check the outlet hose:
Ensure the corrugated drain hose behind the machine isn’t bent, kinked, or crushed against the wall.
If hooked into an under-sink spigot, disconnect the hose and check for fat or food debris build-up blocking the nozzle.
Step 4: Run a Test Cycle😎🔥
Plug the appliance back into power and run a quick Drain & Spin program to verify that water pumps out properly.
