My Apprenticeship at Bountiful Cow: Starting a Career in Advertising

Starting a career in advertising can be difficult when you do not have previous industry experience. For me, becoming an Advertising and Media apprentice at Bountiful Cow has given me the opportunity to learn about the advertising industry while gaining real-world experience at a media agency.

Why I Chose an Advertising Apprenticeship

One of the main reasons I chose an advertising apprenticeship was the opportunity to combine education with practical experience. Rather than only learning about advertising in a classroom, I can apply my knowledge to real campaigns and understand how an agency operates.

Bountiful Cow is a media, creative and brand strategy agency built around the idea of Relative Advantage – finding opportunities where brands can stand out from their competitors.

As an apprentice, I work within the audiovisual (AV) team, where I have developed experience across TV, VOD and CTV advertising.

My Role as an AV Apprentice

My role has given me experience across different stages of the media buying process. This includes booking campaign finances onto systems such as Caria and Prisma, booking and monitoring schedules with relevant sales houses, and tracking campaign delivery.

I have also been involved in producing weekly written and numerical reports for clients. Monitoring TVR delivery has taught me how important accuracy and attention to detail are when managing an advertising campaign.

Another important part of my role is communication. I regularly work with different departments, media owners and external partners, helping me understand how an advertising campaign moves from a client brief through to delivery and optimisation.

What I Have Learned

My advertising apprenticeship has helped me develop skills that go beyond media buying. I have improved my organisation, communication, problem-solving and data analysis skills while becoming more confident in a professional environment.

The Advertising and Media Executive apprenticeship standard highlights the importance of campaign management, media metrics, communication and working with media owners.

Starting a Career in Advertising

My experience at Bountiful Cow has shown me that an advertising apprenticeship can be a great way to start a career in media. I have gained practical experience while continuing to develop my knowledge through my apprenticeship.

For anyone interested in advertising, media planning or media buying, an apprenticeship can provide a valuable route into the industry.

Conclusion

Being an apprentice at Bountiful Cow has allowed me to gain real industry experience, develop professional skills and understand how advertising campaigns are planned, bought and measured.
