Holding a massive festival means there’s a lot that we as organisers need to think about, including the impact of our event on the local (and global) environment. At Artwave we pride ourselves on being as eco-friendly as we possibly can and we are on a mission to become the most sustainable festival in the UK. But how are we doing that?
Reducing Environmental Impact from the Get-Go: Becoming a Sustainable Festival in the UK
Before launching the festival we are considering the environmental impact and trying to reduce this where we can. Our tickets are all available digitally, reducing the need for paper print-outs. We also have commited to only accepting digital tickets to help avoid unneccessary paper waste so please remember to bring your phone and a copy of your digital ticket to Artwave! Additionally we have committed to a scheme encouraging re-usable water bottles (we will have some available for purchase on site too!) and if you bring your refillable water bottle and a reusable bowl or plate and show them to us you can get 20% off a meal at one of our lovely vendors. Not only that but our stages are going to be powered using renewable energy sources including solar power and our art installation galleries include artists who are using upcycled materials in their work- including Nick Gentry from London.
Eco-friendly at the Event: What to Expect at a Sustainable Festival in the UK
So what about when you’re actually there? Here are just some of the eco-friendly practices you can expect to see at Artwave Fest!
- Recycling and composting stations throughout the venue
- Lighting and stages which are solar-powered
- Various workshops with our fantastic sustainability practitioners ranging from showing how to make eco-friendly art to how to grow your own food at home (check out the Grow Your Own site from RHS for inspo if you want to get started already!)
- Food and drink vendors using recyclable or biodegradable packaging and plant-based meal options at every food stall!
