WTF (Where’s The Food)!
Hi there! I’m Edilzia, a 24-year-old who considers herself a true foodie. But how did I become one, you might wonder? I discovered my passion for food through trying new cuisines, travelling to experience different cultures, experimenting in the kitchen, and being influenced by social media and food culture. The love for exploring flavours and discovering culinary delights drives my enthusiasm for food.
Not only do I relish eating and trying new dishes, but I also have a deep appreciation for cooking and baking. As Thomas Keller once said, “A recipe has no soul. You, as the cook, must bring soul to the recipe.” Cooking and baking are therapeutic for me—it’s my go-to excuse for procrastination.
Friday, my second favourite F word after food!
Indulge in a world of flavours with my favourite foods: from the cheesy goodness of pizza to the exotic spices of African, Portuguese, Brazilian, and Caribbean cuisines. Explore the diverse tastes of Turkish, South American, and Oriental dishes, or savour the classic comfort of burgers. My taste buds are always ready for new adventures, so feel free to suggest your favourites!
Sometimes I feel like I am on a seafood diet, I see food, I eat it.
Yet, my ultimate weakness lies in sweet treats. From donuts (because the centre of a donut is 100% fat-free, right?) to ice cream, cake, cookies, cheesecake, and an array of Portuguese and Brazilian desserts—I have a penchant for all things sugary. If we are what we eat, then consider me as sweet as can be!
Remember: “Stressed” is just “desserts” spelled backward. Treat yourself to something sweet today—you deserve it!
Being Mindful as a Foodie
“Gluttony is an emotional escape, a sign something is eating us.” – Peter De Vries
In a world where indulgence often leads to waste, it’s important for foodies to be mindful of their impact. TooGoodToGo is a game-changer in the fight against food waste, connecting users with surplus food from restaurants and cafes at discounted prices. By utilising their platform, we can make a positive impact on the planet while enjoying delicious meals.
As a food lover, I’ve witnessed the staggering amount of food wasted globally. It’s crucial to understand the importance of reducing food waste and taking action to prevent it. TooGoodTooGo and many others such as Karma and OLIO offer a solution by rescuing perfectly good food that would otherwise end up in landfills. Let’s embrace mindful eating and support initiatives like TooGoodToGo, Karma and OLIO for a more sustainable future.
An apron is like a cape worn backwards
Setting the stage for culinary adventures in the kitchen. Just as Heston Blumenthal beautifully expressed, food is about more than just taste; it’s about creating unforgettable moments with loved ones.
I’ve discovered that meal planning, creative leftovers, and sharing excess food are key in combating food waste. Apps like Olio and TooGoodToGo make it easy to connect with local businesses to donate surplus food to those in need. Composting is another eco-friendly option, transforming food scraps into nourishing soil for vibrant gardens. By embracing these practices, we not only reduce waste but also play a part in building a sustainable food system in the UK.
Remember, it’s the memories made around the table, not the calories counted, that truly nourish our souls.
